Find the kind of running that suits you
There's quite a variety of club runs taking place most weeks in the year, so there's a very good chance you'll
be able to find at least one that suits you in terms of route, distance, speed, time of day and so on.
Club training runs are described on the club website.
For most of our regular runs we aim to make sure that there are route options to suit different levels of speed and fitness,
as for the winter Wednesday route.
Sociable running
All club runs are friendly, but Monday runs are particularly sociable and geared to newer or slower runners.
We also head off from time to time on a Sunday for a day trip to somewhere scenic - like Bridge Of Orchy - and do a couple of runs at different levels of difficulty followed by
the whole group gathering for lunch. Look out for these special Sunday trips on the club forum
Training to improve your running performance
There's a speed training or time trial session on Saturday morning most weeks, to help club members of all standards improve and monitor
their speed and fitness. Again, look out for details of these on the forum.
Racing
The Scottish running calendar is absolutely stuffed with races throughout the year - road races of 5k, 10k, half marathon, marathon,
hill races short, medium, long, steep and not-so-steep,
trail races, cross country races, ultra distance races - bags of choice!
Some of the races that might be of interest are listed on the club calendar, but taking part in the
Club Championship is an excellent first step. There are likely to be other Harriers travelling to championship races and the handicapping system
helps give everyone a more equal chance of earning points and carrying off the trophy!
Helping to run the club and organise its events
We ask members to contribute in some way to the work involved in the two races that the club
organises each year - The Famous Grouse Crieff 10k in July and The Comrie Hills Relay
in September. For both events we need marshalls, timekeepers, parking supervisors and lots of
other helpers.
And if you are interested in contributing in other ways, there are opportunities to work on the club committee!
Social events
Harriers tend to be a rather sociable bunch and apart from socialising generally at club runs
we get together for quite a few non-running fun activities. The largest event is the
annual dinner and ceilidh at The Famous Grouse Experience, but there is a growing list of
other social activities on the calendar such as "Stars in their Eyes", pub quiz and barbecue.
As with most things to do with the club, the best place for information about what's going on is
the forum.
If you haven't yet decided to join, why not give us a try? Just come along to any club run that you like the sound of, or give club secretary Liz Mestecky a
call on 01764 650740 - she'll be very happy to answer any questions.
If you have decided, just complete this form and get it to Liz.
Happy running!
