The Birnam Hill race is a classic of the Scottish hill racing calendar and always attrats a high-quality field. This year, it was part of the SHR Championship series, so the best of Scotland were running.
The race features a short sharp ascent up Birnam Hill for the first mile, followed by a slightly technical initial descent leading into a fast descent on good track to finish alongside the railway back to Birnam. The race this year was won by Wegene Tafese of Cambuslang in fats time of 29.28, with the usual suspects - Tom Owens, Andy Fallas, Findlay Wild, Joe Symonds, Prasad Prasad and Al Anthony all placing in the top 10. Jasmin Paris of Carnethy was first woman, finishing in 34.22.
For the Harriers, some of the main contenders were otherwise engaged with triathlon and road relay races on Sunday. Andy Gallagher was first home in 42.01, followed by Jim Alexander in 45.13 and Al Nicholl in 45.35. Maddy Watson was first woman home (and only Junior in the whole race!) in 47.19, with Cathy Tilbrook finishing in 51.04, and Helen Barker in 1.05.53.
