We don't usually get much of a turnout for the Strathallan 5, despite it being on the doorstep, as it usually coincides with the weekend away at Badaguish. This year's change of date for Badaguish mean we could descend en masse on the Carnegie Harriers race, and although we weren't the most heavily represented club, we certainly made our mark.
The race was run by Sol Sweeney in a swift time of 27.26. Sol started his running with us and is now doing great things Perth Strathtay Harriers. First Harrier was Wattie Mackay in a very good 29.17, to finish in 7th position overall and win another MV50 prize, with Patrick O’Kane next in 30.27, 3rd MV50 and Angus Lindsay in 33.03. Angus is another one of the crop of juniors starting to make an impression with the seniors, and it's great to see him taking on the seniors and performing well. The women’s race was won by Suzanne Gray of Pitreavie, in 32.16. Kerry was first female Harrier home in 35.50, with Rachel Gallagher next on 40.05, and Nicola , making a welcome return to racing after a long break through injury, in 42.02.
There were also a number of Patrick's Hong Kong runners, putting on a good show with Tara Foster taking first female junior prize.
Although this wasn’t a club championship race, a number of the runners nominated this as a wildcard race, so the results have a bearing the club championship. For the men, Wattie Mackay increases his lead at the top, moving to 74.31 points ahead of Andy Gallagher and Will Manners, while for the women, Lauren Fairweather on 41.84 points closes the gap on Cathy Tilbrook (45.47).
