I had a blast at the first Glentress Trail half marathon on Saturday. The route is put together on a set of beautiful winding hilly paths and MTB trails at Glentress, better known for its mountain biking, but converted this weekend to a trail running hub. Some of the uphills were quite kind and some were brutal - there was a very steep section at the 10-mile mark (and the 23-mile mark for the poor souls doing the 2-lap marathon), but the uphills were balanced by some of the best fun descents. Weather conditions were really good - it was only a bit cold, with some lingering snow and ice - and the terrain firm underfoot. Views were pretty spectacular across the Borders. I do think the organisers got lucky with the weather - if it had been wet and windy, it would have been a very different event.
But in the event, a good time was had. The race was won by Andy Fallas in 1.29.35. I finished in 32nd position, 1st MV50, in 2.04.11.
