Strathearn Harriers - New Year's Day Run 2014

Slioch Horseshoe race

Monday, May 23, 2016

Iain Thomson made the long drive north for the classic Slioch Horseshoe race on May 21. Slioch is the magnificent Munro overlooking Loch Maree, and the race is a demanding hill race, made more difficult this year with very challenging weather conditions. The bad weather made for a smaller field than usual, but Iain had a fine time, beating his target, to finish in 3.29.54. In Iain's own words:

It was very wet, the paths were mostly rivers and even the occasional nice looking grassy bits on the descent were so greasy it made them hardly runnable.   My first attempt at this one and the going is pretty rough.  Some danger from falling rocks dislodged by runners above on some of the steep bits.  Overall happy to get this challenging one under my belt.”
