This time last year, Cathy Tilbrook ran the Glencoe Marathon, raising money for Pancreatic Cancer Action, in memory of friend and clubmate Simon Wake, which died of pancreatic cancer in 2008.
The marathon follows a demanding route starting at the Red Squirrel campsite in Glencoe with a difficult ascent of the Devil’s Staircase over the north side of the glen, into Kinlochleven and then through the Mamores into Fort William, with nearly 1700m of ascent over the whole course.
Husband Doug Flint had planned to run the race as well, to celebrate his 50th birthday, but unfortunately, injury got in the way and Doug had to defer his entry. Thankfully, overcoming injuries and illness, Doug finally got to run the Glencoe Marathon, still in his 50th year, and he was delighted to finish in a very good 4.39.01, in 7th position in the V50 age category.
Meanwhile, in the half-marathon, from Kinlochleven to Fort William, Angie Leckie finished in a good 2.53.18, in 5th position in her age category.
