A car-load of Harriers (thanks to Andrew Brown Taxi Services) made the Thursday evening trip to Pollok Park in Glasgow for the Bell Belter 10k. This is the final race in the Tour of Clydeside series organised by a group of clubs in the Glasgow area, but is a good race in its own right.
Conditions on the night were very good for running. The course was changed from previous years and had a bit more up and down than expected, but was a nice couple of laps of pleasant wooded parkland.
First Harrier home was Maddy Watson in 44.22, (7th woman and 1st F20-24), followed by Tony Wayte in 44.34 who spent the last 2.5 k trying to chase Maddy down, but failing in the last few hundred metres. Next in, with an excellent PB, was Andrew Brown in 48.4, with Lauren Fairweather also scoring a good pb in 49.39 - first time under 50 minutes for both Andrew and Lauren. And not far behind was Julia Greenlees in 52.13.
The race was won by Scott Thomson of Lasswade AC in a zippy 31.53. The women's race was won by the formidable Fiona Matheson of Falkirk Victoria in 36.49. Fiona runs in the FV55-59 category, and was nearly 6 minutes ahead of the second-placed woman.
