A brief report from Iain Thomson on the Newburgh trail race:
Huge turnout of over 200 which surprised the organisers. Course was changed and slightly shortened (under 4M) because of building work so it was a mad scramble at the start to reach the narrow gate and track near the beginning. Mark did well on his first outing after injury, avoiding the tractor ruts to protect his dodgy knee, finishing in 28:25 (121st) with me a few seconds behind in 28:29 (123rd). Race was won by Ben Hukins of Cambuslang in 21:23. For me it was far too short, with the finishing line appearing just as I was getting into my running and starting to pass people. Well organised race as usual with Fife AC and great value at only £3.
Iain and Mark both played Championship wildcards, and Mark played his joker, to great effect, kickstarting his Championship campaign with a very impressive 21.19 points. He does have a bit of catching up to do. Iain scored good points too, to close the gap to Ben to less than 2 points.
