Strathearn Harriers - New Year's Day Run 2014

Auchterarder half marathon

Monday, September 18, 2017

A strong clutch of Harriers made the short trip down to Gleneagles for the inaugural Auchterarder half marathon. This report from Andy Aitken:

In the inaugural running of the Auchterarder half marathon 13 Harriers readied themselves for battle. Conditions were good for running being dry with little wind. The 1st 6 miles were fast and downhill with the runners working their way from the Gleneagles riding arena into Auchterarder and down to Kinkell Bridge.

From here the race went into Strathallan estate at the airfield and followed a figure of 8 through the estate. The going got tough here, with the change of surface to a decent hard-core track and a challenging hill at mile 8. Once through the estate and back onto the road, the long pull back up to Auchterarder started. Runners had to dig deep here as the sun was shining and the temperature was rising. Once back in the Lang toon, the route took a wee tour up the main drive of Gleneagles Hotel, before turning back into the riding arena and the finish.
There was lots of fantastic running today and times were impressive in what was a challenging race. To round off the day’s events, there was a surprise cake and fizz for Maddy for an impending 21st Birthday.
