Full marks to Neil and Beth Scholes for making the 170 mile round trip from Aberfeldy to Kirkintilloch for the 12.5k road race, or as Neil put it: it’s a fine line between dedication and madness.
Neil was first Harrier home in 47th position in a fine time of 52:45, some way ahead of Tony Wayte in 55.27. Iain Thomson overcame his dodgy back to finish in 1:01:19, with Mark Dillon exactly a minute behind in 1:02:19. Beth held off Gordon Morrison to finish in 1:04:15, a 4 second margin over Gordon finishing in 1:04:19, and Susan Sharp completed in 1:14:11.
Neil and Beth have been rewarded by consolidating their positions at the heads of the men’s and women’s championship. Full championship standing are on the club website. The race was run in decent conditions, with only a few icy bits and a chilly wind. The race was won by Darren Thom of New Marske Harriers in a time of 42:33.
