Nick Gough and Tony Wayte ran the Seven Hills of Edinburgh race on Sunday. This is part road run, part urban orienteering and part scrambling up Arthur’s Seat the steep way, comprising an anti-clockwise tour of the seven main hills in Edinburgh The race starts on Calton Hill, with a helter-skelter dash up North Bridge and the Royal Mile to the Castle, much to the bemusement of the tourists, followed by road sections to Corstorphine Hill, Craiglockhart Hill, Braid Hill, Blackford Hill and a steep ascent of Arthur's Seat up the Gutted Haddie, again to the bemusement of the throngs on top, and back to the finish back on Calton Hill. All told, it's between 14 and 15 miles, depending on route choices, and about 2200 feet of ascent.
Nick ran very well to finish in 27th position in a time of 1.58.37. Tony took a rather more leisurely approach to the event, and finished in 2.20.37.
The race was won by Dessie Flanagan of Carnethy in a time of 1.38.58.
