Nick Gough and Iain Thomson headed south for the Pentland Skyline race. This is one of the classics of Scottish hill running, covering 16 miles with 6200 feet of ascent and very considerable amounts of mud and bog. Nick finished in 4.02.28, fighting off cramp, and Iain wasn’t far behind with a course pb of 4.09.59 (6th MV60) – excellent efforts from both runners.
The race was won by Andy Fallas of Carnethy in 2.19.23
For Nick, this was the final race in his assault on the Scottish Long Classics. In Nick's own words:
Feeling very pleased with myself today to finally see the results of a years worth of hard work. To count myself among the 52 to complete the series out of over 800 participants has been a huge achievement for me which has pushed me well beyond what I thought I was capable of.
In spite of the pain, cramps, tears and one near death experience I have thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, it has taken me to some amazing new places and I’ve made some new friends along the way too!
