Antonine trail race

Nicola Watson and Tony Wayte had a fantastic morning out at the Antonine trail race. Weather conditions were perfect, and even the bits of the course which are usually really muddy were good underfoot, making for excellent running conditions. Tony finished in 1.46.30, (25th overall), and Nic sneaked ahead of last year’s time to finish in 2.06.06, 11th woman.

Culloden 17.46 and 10k races

Dawn Gleeson and Neil and Beth Scholes headed north for the Culloden 17.46k and 10k races. In the 17.46k race Neil was 13th overall, 2nd MV50 in an excellent 1.15.06, and Dawn had a fine run in 1.45.30. Meanwhile Beth Scholes ran the 10k race, finishing 10th woman, 6th FV40 in 48.27.

Meall a‘Bhuachaille hill race

Andy Gallagher made the most of a family weekend in the Cairngorms with a late decision to run the Meall a‘Bhuachaille hill race. Conditions sounded distinctly chilly, but at least the snow held off until Andy had finished. Andy finished in 1.28.52, 46th overall, and 7th MV50.

East District Cross Country League #1

Well done to the quartet of seniors who made it to Stirling for the first of the East District Cross Country matches. Beth Scholes was our sole female representative and had a very solid race finishing in 30.34. In the men's race Neil Scholes was 1st home (38.31), followed shortly after by Andy Aitken (39.54), and Gordon had a great final finish claiming an extra few places in the last couple of hundred metres to finish in 44.14

Iain Thomson had a successful trip north for the Dramathon - a marathon distance run along the Speyside Way, with convenient stops at assorted distilleries along the way to collect miniatures of fine Speyside malts. Iain had an excellent, finishing in a very commendable 3.53.48, 2nd MV60, although it's possible that times and positions weren’t the over-riding elements of interest in this particular event!

East District cross country relays

Lynne Aitken, Rachel Gallagher and Kerry Sweeney made the trip to Glamis Castle for the East District short-course relays. The trio put in solid performances, with Lynne, making her cross-country debut, leading out in 20.29, Rachel taking the middle leg (21.01) and Kerry finishing with a speedy 17.37, to finish in an overall position of 34th.

Rannoch Marathon and half marathon

Andy scores a half marathon pb and a top 10 finish at the Rannoch half marathon in a fine time of 1.31.32 (6th overall). Josie Goodfellow and Elaine Moffat, in training for the Glen Ogle 33 ultra, ran the full marathon. Josie was happy to finish in a very good 4.12.52, 2nd FV40, with Elaine a bit behind in 4.21.00.

Mad Hatters half marathon

Al Nichol ran the Mad Hatters half marathon in Fife. This looks like a bit of beast, especially in very challenging weather, with almost 700m of ascent up and down Benarty Hill on fairly sketchy trails. Al was 18th overall and 5th MV40, in a time of 2.46.47, which is an excellent effort.

Pentland Skyline

15 October 2018

Nick Gough and Iain Thomson took on the Pentland Skyline race, covering 16 miles with 6200 feet of ascent and very considerable amounts of mud and bog. Nick finished in 4.02.28, fighting off cramp, and Iain wasn’t far behind with a course pb of 4.09.59 (6th MV60) – excellent efforts from both runners.

Meall nan Tarmachan hill race

08 October 2018

Andy Gallagher leads the way at the Meall nan Tarmachan hill race with an excellent 1.07.19, 2nd MV50. Next in was Morris Roberts, in his first ‘proper’ hill race, not far behind in 1.09.50, with Gordon Morrison next in 1.20.13.
