Ochil 2000s

21 August 2018

Ben Murphy and Nic Gough continued their summer assaults on some of Scotland's long hill races at the Ochil 2000s race. This race runs from Glen Devon, over all the Ochil hills over 2000 ft, to Stirling University, covering 31km and 1200m of ascent. Ben finished in 54th position in a time of 3.51.06, with Nick 12 minutes behind in 66th position, in a time of 4.03.45.

Ceres 8

Nicola Watson and Lauren Fairweather made another trip to Fife for the reinstated Ceres 8 road race on Tuesday. Lauren ran an excellent race to finish in a time of 1.00.23, with Nic a wee bit behind in 1.07.26.

Bolton Abbey Trail Festival

20 August 2018

Fiona McDonald and Tony Wayte struck lucky during a visit to Yorkshire with the Bolton Abbey Trail Festival 10k and half marathon. Both races were considerably harder than anticipated, but on the plus side, the weather was a lot better than forecast. Tony finished in 1.53.03, in 5th position (1st M50), and Fiona ran the 10k in 64.12, 1st in her age category.

Port Glasgow 10k

Andy Aitken ran the inaugural Port Glasgow 10k in slightly damp conditions in a fine time of 41.30 to finish in 24th position.

Balmullo trail race

13 August 2018

Four Harriers made the trip to East Fife for the Balmullo trail race. First Harrier home, with a very good effort following his Glen Shee 9 exploits the previous weekend, was Ben Murphy, in 15th position, in a time of 32.52. Next in was Lauren Fairweather in 39.54, ahead of Iain Thomson in 43.32 and Nicola Watson, making a welcome return to racing, in 43.57.

Touch of Tartan Perth half marathon

Five Harriers took on the Touch of Tartan half marathon in Perth. First Harrier home was Jim Alexander in 1.38.44 (7th MV50), followed by John Davidson, 1.44.16 (2nd MV60), Elaine Moffat in 2.00.54 (6th FV40), Elaine Davidson in 2.28.43 and Kiera Reid in 2.33.33.

Run Mhor Marathon and Marathon relay

At the Mhor Marathon, Neil Scholes finished well in 16th position in a time of 3.45.52 (5th MV50), and Beth Scholes was 28th woman (10th FV40) in a time of 4.30.37. In the marathon relay, Josie Goodfellow and Elaine Moffat were 8th female team in 4.19.05, with Keira Reid and Anna Howat finishing in 5.16.52.

Creag Dubh hill race

Andy Aitken ran his hometown hill race at the Newtonmore Highland Games, finishing in a time of 38.07 in 29th position. This looks like a fairly brutal event, with a steep climb up the hill behind Newtonmore.

Mull half marathon

06 August 2018

Dawn Gleeson followed a well-worn trail of Harriers making the trip to Mull for the half marathon from Craignure to Salen. Dawn finished in a time of 2:12:50, 6th in her age category.

Dunoon half marathon

06 August 2018

Tony Wayte ran his flattest and slowest half marathon of the year at Dunoon, on a pleasant coastal route. Tony finished in 28th position, 4th MV50, in a time of 1.35.52.
