11 June 2018Roger Clark, Anne Hartmann and Tony Wayte headed west again, this time for the Skye half marathon. Conditions on the day were warm, to say the least, but that didn’t seem to impair Roger and Anne. Roger was 5th overall, 1st MV40, in an excellent time of 1.20.05. Anne was 16th overall, 2nd woman, just 30 second behind 1st place, to finish in another superb time of 1.28.02. Tony struggled over the second half of the race to finish in 1.34.23.
11 June 2018Irene Smith and Becky Hughes ran the Errol 10k together to finish in a time of 1.10.44.
10 June 2018The 2018 Strathearn Marathon was won by 2013 winner and course record holder Roger van Gompel of Dundee Hawkhill Harriers in a time of 2.52.12. The women’s race was won by Jillian Gordon of Kinross Road Runners in a time of 3.18.30. First Harrier was Daryl van Blerk in 18th position, in a time of 3.18.48, and first female Harriers was Lauren Fairweather, 5th woman with an excellent 3.36.54.
04 June 2018Five Harriers joined the rearranged Alloa half marathon, run in very different conditions compared with the original race in March, which was postponed due to snow and ice. First Harrier home, in preparation for her Strathearn Marathon efforts next week, was Lauren Fairweather, in a time of 1.58.22. Not far behind, also in readiness for next week’s efforts, was Elaine Moffat, in 1.59.50, with Janine Grant next in with a time of 2.02.36, Dawn Gleeson (2.04.51) and Susan Sharp (2.09.30).
04 June 2018Cathy Tilbrook and Doug Flint completed the last ever running of the Lowe Alpine Mountain Marathon, run this year on Harris. Cathy and Doug finished 9th in their category. The other Harriers pairing of Emily Greaves and Rhian Evans were forced to withdraw when Emily broke her ankle on Day. It should also be noted that Doug and Rhian were taking part the week after completing the Isle of Jura hill race, which is an outstanding achievement.
20 May 2018Nick pips Wattie in a finishing straight sprint, with Nick finishing in 29.45, just 1 second ahead of Wattie, in 16th and 17th positions. Tony just managed to overhaul Andy Gallagher on the very last short sharp climb and was able to keep ahead to the end. Next in was Jim Alexander, followed by Al Nicholl (with a new best time for this race) and Gordon Morrison, with Lauren Fairweather first Harrier woman home, and with Keira Reid running well on her Kinnoull Hill debut.
20 May 2018Not content with racing at Kinnoull Hill on Thursday, Lauren was back in action on Saturday with Richard Collingwood at the Dick Wedlock 10k in Pollok Park, hosted by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Athletics Club. Richard finished in 44.45, and Lauren scored another new pb of 46.17.
19 May 2018Andrew Brown ran the Babcock Dumbarton 10k on Thursday and scored a new 10k pb with a time of 44.43 - lots of hard winter training paying off!
14 May 2018Nick Gough follows up his Stuc a’Chroin efforts with a very fine 41.19, a 2-minute improvement on last year’s time. Mike Thomson was next in with a time of 49.30, not far ahead of Andy Gallagher in 50.03. Lauren Fairweather was our leading woman in a time of 54.45, having a fine race with Lorna Maclarty, who was just 4 seconds back in 54.49, and Keira Reid finished in 1.20.40.
14 May 2018In probably the most exotic Harrier event of the year so far, club Welfare Officer Mirela MacInnes ran her first ever half marathon in her home town of Banjaluka, in Bosnia. Conditions sounded tough, with high humidity, but despite that, Mirela was very happy with her time of 2.20.56.
