Welcome to the Junior Section of Strathearn Harriers. We aim to provide a friendly, encouraging and fun environment for children to develop their potential as young athletes. Our goals are to develop a love of running, to enable each athlete to improve their performance and encourage competition at a level appropriate to each athlete’s ability and stage of development.
The Junior section welcomes children from 9 to 16 years of age. We train twice a week at 5.30pm on Tuesday and Thursdays. Our usual meeting place is Taylor Park / Dallerie (Morrison’s Academy’s playing fields) although we also use facilities at the Crieff Community Campus, the George Duncan Track in Perth and the paths and trails round about Crieff and, from time-to-time, Comrie.
Tuesday and Thursday evening sessions will usually take place at Taylor Park / Dallerie Fields. The session starts at 5.30pm so please try to arrive a few minutes before that so we are ready to start on time. Occasionally, we may use other locations (e.g. Perth Track, The Knock, Comrie, etc) so, if in doubt, please check the weekly email bulletin, Junior Facebook page or contact one of the coaching team.
Please do make sure that you bring a drink with you to each session and have a tracksuit or hoodie to put on if it’s cold.
NB. After the session, parents must sign their children out on the registration sheet unless, by prior written arrangement, they have allowed their children to make their own way home.
We aim to give children a variety of experiences in athletics but with a primary focus on running disciplines. We compete in the East District Cross Country League in the winter and also a wide variety of road, trail and hill races throughout the year. There are also opportunities to try track and field events such as the Open Graded Track Meetings at Grangemouth and or our very own annual Track Championships at Dallerie.
