Welcome to the Junior Section of Strathearn Harriers. We aim to provide a friendly, encouraging and fun environment for children to develop their potential as young athletes. Our goals are to develop a love of athletics and to enable each athlete to improve their performance and compete at a level appropriate to their own ability and stage of development.
The Junior section welcomes children from 9 to 16 years of age. We train twice a week on Thursdays (usually at 5.30pm) and Sundays at 9am. Our usual meeting place is Taylor Park in Crieff, although we also use facilities at the Braidhaugh (Rugby Club) Crieff Community Campus, Morrison’s Academy’s Dallerie playing fields, the George Duncan Track in Perth and the paths and trails round about Crieff and, from time-to-time, Comrie.
Thursday evening sessions will take place at Taylor Park. Meet at 5.30pm. Please do make sure that you have plenty of warm clothes (plus hat and gloves) as the weather is going to be increasingly cold and damp as we move into winter. Parents dropping off children should use the drop-off area at the all-weather pitch at Dallerie. Please do not use the car park at Taylor Park - it's too dark to see who is coming and going.
December The Junior sections is taking its Christmas and New Year break. Junior sessions will start again on Thursday 5 January, 5.30pm at Taylor Pk. During this period it is very important that you all get out running several times per week to keep up your fitness levels and also make sure you practice your running drills whenever you get the chance.
We aim to give children a variety of experiences in athletics but with a primary focus on running disciplines. We compete in the East District Cross Country League in the winter and also a wide variety of children’s road, trail, and hill races throughout the year. There are also opportunities to try track and field events such as the Tayside and Fife Championships.
