The Comrie Hills Relay is a well-established hill relay over the hills and trails on the east and west sides of Glen Lednock. Run over four legs, the race covers 43km with 1,733m of ascent, starting and finishing in Comrie village. There are legs to suit everyone: Legs 2 and 3 cover rough mountain terrain, with Leg 3 taking runners most of the way up local Munro, Ben Chonzie, while Legs 1 and 4, although challenging, are closer to trail races.
This years race had 33 teams, with very strong representation from Shettleston Harriers, Westerlands CCC, Hunters Bog Trotters and of course from host club Strathearn Harriers.
The overall race was won by the Shettleston Harriers men's team of Joe Symonds, Alex Hill, Harry Pulham and Daniel Dry, in an excellent time of 3.12.38.
The women's race was won by the Westerlands team of Ellen Downs, Ella Foreman, Ella Peters and Helen Gordon in a new women's record time of 3.46.50, with Ellen Downs setting a new women's record for Leg 1 of 50.26. Also setting a new leg record was Cat Peutherer of Shettleston Harriers, who set a new Leg 2 women's record of 47.22.
For the Harriers, the men's A team of Marcus Scotney, Jon Turnbull, Jonathan Marks and Harrison Cunnah took 3rd place overall, while the mixed A team of Hanna McInally, Calum McBean, Deirdre Sills and Stephen Ainslie were first in the Mixed category, and the men's V40 A team of Nick Gough, Dave Dowse, Jim Reid and Graeme Warren were 2nd in the Vet 40 Open category.
A special mention goes to James Espie, who ran two legs, running the 3rd fastest Leg 3 time on the day for Deeside Runners and the 9th fastest Leg 4 time for RTS Forestry.
