John Myles made the trip east to St Andrews for the Chariots of Fire Beach Race. Recalling the famous scenes in the film, runners were invited to run in all-white t-shirts and shorts on the West Beach, to create a unique atmosphere.
From John: Love taking part in this race, brilliantly organised and the anthemic Vangelis playing at the start finish line plus a donut to finish with what’s not to like. Weather was a bit of everything started sunny, then the wind picked up then the rain came in which softened the sand a little.
Not much outside my quickest 5k so happy enough the time. And yet another race where, as you’ll see in the photos, I need to run with my head up.
John finished in 22.36 - a very decent time on sand - to finish in 50th position overall in a total field of 721.
The race was won by Ruan Van Rensburg in a speedy 17.18.
