The Isle of Jura Fell Race is one of the hardest and most iconic races in the British hill-racing calender. The unmarked route requires navigation skills and solid experience in the hills to cover a distance of 27km with total ascent of 2370m of ascent. The terrain is difficult, particularly on the three Paps, with extensive loose scree slopes. Not an event to be taken lightly!
This year's Harriers representatives were Ralph McInally and Dave Dowse. From Gill Dowse: Dave and Ralph McInally took on the epic challenge of the Jura race in horrid conditions on Saturday. It was really blowy with limited visibility on the 7 tops over 28km and 2,370m of ascent. Dave came in at 5:29, saying it was the toughest race he's ever done. Unfortunately Ralph took the helicopter down (to Glasgow) after breaking his ankle. The sun came out for the prize giving and so did the midges!
Dave was 125th overall, 32nd MV40.
The race was won by Finlay Wild of Lochaber AC in a time of 3.07.16, a full 15 minutes ahead of second place Feliw Wilson of Carnethy. The women's race was won by Alexandra Whittaker of Ambleside AC in a time of 4.10.42.
