Applecross Duathlon

This from Katy Turnbull: This weekend saw an excellent turnout of Strathearn Harriers for the annual Applecross Duathlon. First off we had Monica Thomson and Jim Reid accompanying Robin setting off in the Challenge, an hour later the Race set off with Mike Thomson, Ralph McInally, Harrison Cunnah & Gi and Jonathan Turnbull accompanying Harris. The weather was kind, unlike last year.
The course started at Hartfield House with a 9-mile run over track, into uphill passing lochans and scenic views throughout, to bike transition on the Sheildaig-to-Applecross road for an “undulating” 15-mile road bike back to Hartfield House. Amazing efforts from everyone taking part! With Monica the first Harrier Home, Ralph coming 3rd overall and Harris winning the Junior cup for his age related effort. As always the atmosphere was fun and relaxed with beers and medals for the finishers and excellent post race catering with a fun and energetic ceilidh in the evening. In the Challenge event, Monica was 3rd overall and 1st female in a time of 2.50.36, with Jim and Robin Reid finishing together in 2.59.44. Robin was 8th overall and 1st FJunior, and Jim was 9th overall and 1st MVet.
In the Race event, Ralph was 3rd overall in a time of 1.51.48. Mike Thomson finished in 2.24.57 in 36th position overall, 5th MSVet. Harris and Jonathan Turnbull were 52nd and 53rd overall, with Harris finishing 3rd MJunior, in times of 2.34.13 and 2.34.16. Rounding out the Harriers entrants was Harrison, who finished in 3.02.14, in 55th position overall.
The race was won by Sasha Chepelin, proving he can ride a bike as well as run up and down hills, in a time of 1.43.32, and the women's race was won by Holly Page of Carnethy in 1.59.52. There were 139 finishers.
