This race report from Tony Wayte: Clare Martin and I did the Glen Clova Extreme Duathlon on Saturday. Weather conditions on the drive over looked a bit grim, but things improved as the morning went on, so we managed to avoid the worst of the rain in the afternoon.
The race starts with a 16.4 mile ride over the route of the Glen Clova half marathon plus a wee bit up to the end of the glen. From there, the 8.7 mile run/walk goes up to the first Munro, Mayar, across the plateau to the second Munro, Driesh, with a fastish descent back down to transition, finishing with a short bike ride back to the Glen Clova Hotel.
The race is a fundraiser for the Tayside Mountain Rescue Team, members of which were marshalling along the way, including fellow Harrier Gordon Grant at the top of Mayar. I was happy to beat my target time, and finished in 3.48.10, while Clare came in in a time of 4.41.33. It's an excellent event, raising money for a good cause. Very tasty warming soup at the finish.
Clare was 1st FV60, and Tony was 2nd MV60.
The race was won by Christopher MacDonald in a time of 2.45.45, and the women's race was won by Kirsty Oldham in 2.51.19.
