The Devil o’ the Highlands race comprises the second half (roughly) of the West Highland Way from Tyndrum to Fort William. Marcus Scotney and Josie Goodfellow, both unstoppable running machines, did this 42 mile trail ultramarathon in warmer-than-ideal conditions. Marcus took 3rd place overall (and 1st in category, in 5.54.55) on his third time doing the race. Good pacing meant that he worked his way up through the leading pack, despite his training not having been ideal. Josie finished in 10.07.30 for 330th place out of 549 finishers with about 30 DNFs. Whilst a bit further back in the field, Josie also made up places all through the race to finish 20th FV50. And according to Strava, recorded her fastest 50k of 2026.
Josie is hoping to complete the trilogy of the Devil o’ the Highlands, the Highland Fling and the West Highland Way race to mark an auspicious birthday. She's certainly off to a good start.
The race was won by Michael Deason of Shettleston Harriers in 5.39.27, and the women's race was won by Julia Davis in 6.18.38
