Strathearn Harriers - New Year's Day Run 2014

London Marathon

Race Date: 26 April 2026

One of the biggest, if not the biggest, mass participation sporting events in the world, the London Marathon is a major milestone for many runners. This year was made even more special with the winner and second place runner both achieving the astonishing achievement of a sub-2 hour marathon.

Our two Harriers involved, Graeme Warren and Peter Banks didn’t hang about either. In warm conditions, Graeme finished in 2.57.40 for 2766th place, maintaining his record of having all four of his marathons in under 3 hours. Peter finished in 3.28.37 for 9273rd place (out of some 59,000 participants).

Peter has posted a lengthy report on his FB page, and is raising funds for a number of charities: Thank you to everyone who donated and helped raise so much for charities that mean a great deal to me: The Commonwealth Resounds, My Name'5 Doddie Foundation and The Amber Trust. The winner was Sebastian Sawe of Kenya in 1.59.30.
