Strathearn Harriers - New Year's Day Run 2014

Moray Marathon

Race Date: 05 April 2026

This was one of Scotland’s oldest marathons, but stopped taking place until resurrected in 2024 by Chilled Running. It’s described by the organisers as “the only road marathon in the North & East of Scotland in the Springtime”, and flat and fast. On the day, they also said “We shall rename it The 4 Seasons Marathon!”

Two Harriers took on the variety of conditions - Morris Roberts and our northern correspondent Gerard Chouet. Morris finished in 30th position, in a time of 3:21:44 (and 10th in category), achieving a marathon PB, despite running with a bad back. Gerard had a tough time of it, completing the course in 4:25:35 for 133rd position, and noting All went well until mile 15, ahead of my target time. Then the weather, brutal, kicked in, with a 40mph cold wind, as we passed Lossiemouth. This, combined with fatigue and lack of specific training, made me lose 1 min per mile up to the finishing line.

The race was won by Adam Gray of Penicuik Harriers in a speedy 2.26.49. There were 186 finishers.
