The Loch Leven half is a popular Central Belt half, and has been improved in recent by being run on closed roads. Thanks to Ronan McDermott for the following race report: First and foremost, this is such an excellent race, if half marathon is a distance you are into, there aren’t much better than this one on your doorstep, Kinross Road Runners do a super job, having a course free of cars makes a big difference and the local support is really fantastic. Hearing a live cover of ‘celebrity skin’ by hole was not on my bingo card when I set off but like last year at the top of the hill at mile 8 there was a young band giving it socks. Is grunge cool again kids?
The day started with scraping ice off the car at 7am and got down early to get some slow miles in to tick the marathon mileage box for the day. Half an hour into the run it was baking hot so that escalated quickly! My main aim for the day was to run a negative split and practice getting fuel on board every half hour. Having these as race goals completely changed the way I would usually race, but was delighted with how it went, managed to get a negative split and decent overall time of 1:40:44. The upside of going solo this year was not having to wait about for the prizegiving after, but like I say it’s a great race and hopefully I’ll be back next year to do it a 5th year in a row.
The race was won by Carter Taylor of Fife AC in 1.11.09.
